I took this photo a few years ago but am posting it today in honour of the man closest to me in this photo who played scrum half, number 9, for the South African rugby team this weekend when they won the World Cup. Faf de Klerkis his name.

I watched the last threee games of SA (and some others of course).
The "little" man was everywhere.
I enjoyed most the last try by Cheslin Kolbe. But the first one was also superb.

He certainly was. I watch our local team, The Lions, at the stadium and have done for years. Faf was playing for the Lions when this image was made and I had been watching him the day before. He gave me a smile when he saw me take the photo. The guy on his left in known as the Angry Warthog. Another good player

Anyone who posts any expression of pleasure, or even anything other than abject misery, at the result of the Rugby World Cup Final will be summarily banned. For ever. And hanged, drawn and quartered. And possibly tarred and feathered as well. And waterboarded. And beheaded.
I might have to re-think the order of punishments at some point.

Some of us believed that the "real Final" was already England vs All Blacks
That the next game would be just pro forma
How mistaken we were! 8)

Springboks never lost a World Cup final and have never conceded a try. Sorry for the misery Jeremy but I thought it a fantastic result. They peaked at the right time.

Yep. The final is the final. I thought it a good game. Obviously.
The team is much improved over the last 18 months. I don’t think they are consistently the worlds best. That title must still go the the All Blacks but the gap is narrowing.
