Title: MASK: Chris Rainier’s Photography and the living monuments of spirit
Post by: josh.reichmann on September 16, 2019, 03:48:59 pm: I was excited to write about and "review" MASK. This piece https://luminous-landscape.com/mask-chris-rainiers-photography-and-the-living-monuments-of-spirit/ is the first installment on Chris's latest work. For me, The themes and imagery are clearly very important and moving. Interested if other's feel the same way. Thanks!

Masks have been a fundamental part of human culture forever and are fascinating on a lot of different levels. These images are quite evocative and I think important as well. Both from a documentary standpoint and that they are pleasing and unique images in and of themselves. I really like the treatment of color in them.

As an aside on masks, take a look at the antler headdresses from the Mesolithic at Star Carr in the UK.
