... through a dense cloud cover. Strong wind sending ocean spray into the camera :(
-
Good shot. I like the composition and the colour palette. The positioning of the moon in particular.

Супер фотограф, мој драгамир Слободан! Добро!

Хвала, Лари! :D

Thanks, Martin. The Photographer Ephemeris app helped with finding the moon position.
-
A day later, I decided to flip the image for compositional purposes. What say you?
-
I prefer the original.
Jeremy

Either way works, but I slightly prefer the first, probably because it was the first version I saw.
-
Nice shot. Either one is good.
-
I prefer the second. Something to do with the way we scan images from left to right. Don’t really want to go into that again as the last time I brought it up it provoked a surprisingly strong reaction for some reason.

Martin, Now that you mention it, you;re right, I mean correct. In the first, the moon on the left jumps into my brain first. In the second, the lighted wharf jumps in first and then I move my eyes to the right to settle the moon.
I don't recall the last debate. Do I favor one image over the other and see one image differently than the other because I read English rows from left to right, top to bottom? Would a person who reads Hebrew or Arabic, which are read in rows right to left, top to bottom react oppositely? What about Asians who read columns top to bottom, right to left? What about left handed vs. right-handed people? What about right-eyed dominant vs. left-eyed dominant people? (Yes we are that too. I'm right eyed. Here's a way to test what you are. )

Slobo, Sorry if I hijacked your thread. I could move this to another new thread. But I need your samples as part of the discussion. Can we leave my question here?

Sure, no problem, that’s why I posted the flipped version. I am still not completely sure which one I prefer :)

What do you think of my theory?

What do you think of my theory?
I don’t know about left and right eye dominant or left and right handed having an effect. Never thought about it.
I do know that flipping an image really can change the feel of an image. We seem to read it differently. Years ago as a kid I read a thing in a magazine about composition and in it they had an example of a man running left to right and then flipped it so he was running right to left. The right to left gave more a sense of a struggle. The theory was that it had to do with how we read and the eyes becoming accustomed to tracking in a more expected direction as a result.
In infantry training we were taught when looking for hidden things that might shoot at us to look right to left as we would track more slowly and be less likely to miss something. My personal experience was that when my life depends on finding something I look right to left.
On Slobodan's image the flipped version my eye leads left off the pier to the moon. I prefer that. With the first image my eye quickly leaves the moon and drifts off to the pier losing the moon.
That my opinion on it. Ignore it at you pleasure.

Great image, I actually like more the second option, but cannot explain why. What I would try (departing from reality) is to mirror the image around the moon.
-
If you read the image from left to right, #2 works better for me. Good photo.
-
It's a beautiful image, either way. But I prefer the second view. My brain must be well trained.

I hate to ask, it is probably another cultural reference that I don't get, but why Fool Moon?

Damn autocorrect! It is, of course, a "full" Moon. Thanks for pointing out.
I got it right on Flickr, with a slightly different "peeking" position:

Whew...
I like the latest one the best. I am a sucker for the square format and the moon is much more interesting and prominent, becomes the main focus of the picture rather than competing with the pier as in the other format.

Don't believe him! He was out in awful weather, putting his camera at risk. I thought it was a perfect title ;) My favorite: the last image.

Another possible explanation attached.
P.S. There is something in touch typing, when you know you have to type twice a particular letter (like "l" in "full", then followed by double "o" in 'Moon") that makes your fingers rush and you end up typing the wrong letter twice
:)

Don't believe him! He was out in awful weather, putting his camera at risk. I thought it was a perfect title ;)...
Then it would be "Fool's Moon" ;)
-
You say, "lemons," I say, "melons." Love it! At least we agree, 'em er sum nice melons, er, images. ;)
-
Great shot. I prefer the flipped version.
-
I think the title should be "Fool Melons Rising."
You know, as in "You can fool all of the melons some of the time..."
