Hi,
I have done some searches but a little stumped (actually really frustrated!).
I read here that the parent folder determines the Default sort order when first opening a folder with lightroom (not on import).
But when I open the parent folder the default order is Capture Time. Which is what I usually want.
How come EVERTIME I open a image subfolder, it defaults to PICK??? Which sucks because as you flagg your photos it reshuffles them and makes you choose another sort order!
How do I get my folders to open with the sort order set to Capture Time?
Thanks!

Where have you read it?
Sort order is flaky (only a little) but I don't think the parent folder is relevant. Maybe new subfolders inherit their parent's sort order. But as far as I observe, a folder or dumb collection will remember its own sort order.
Maybe reset LR's preferences.

I just looked at my Lr catalog and all levels of folders are set to "Capture Time". I've never had anything else. I have no idea what would cause it to change.
It's not a good sign if this stumps John.

It's especially frustrating because if I close a folder that initially was set to Pick, change it to capture time and close it, it'll reopen set to Pic again..... The setting change never sticks

Fundamentally, a folder or dumb collection will remember the last sort order that was applied to it.
But have you tried resetting LR's preferences?
John
PS Always helpful to say what OS and exactly what version of LR you are using

Thanks John! You've helped me many times over the years. I havent been on the forum much for a while - nice to see your still active here :-)
Win 10 and I am running LR 6 because I'm offended by Adobe's monthly only policy. LR 6 still works with my Fuji Xt-2 and 20.
I'm trying to figure out what to do (stay or jump ship) when my next camera system purchase happens (which will probably be this year).....
