Title: Big Tree
Post by: stevenfr on July 23, 2019, 01:42:48 pm
Big Tree - Phase One XF IQ4 150 9 image Stitch

this one has an interesting story. I had pre-scouted a spot in the lavender fields in Provence the day before. We got up at 4:00 AM to get to the spot. I walked out through the lavender and began to set up my tripod. As I setup a bee stung me at the very corner of my eye. This seemed to set off the bees, and they were all coming after me, trying to sting me in my face. I got stung again at the corner of my eye, almost at the same spot as the first sting. There are millions of bees in the fields – when in the lavender fields two things are very apparent the smell of the lavender, and the loud noise/hum from the bees. The fields are almost vibrating from so many bees.

We decided to abandon the spot in the lavender field, and drove off down a dirt road. Coming around a corner the big tree caught my eye just at sunrise.

That's a lovely reward for your suffering.

Thanks Eric. I was really lucky to get only two bites and even luckier to find this tree so quickly.

A nice photograph despite the original plan.

I've had many similar experiences when plans go south only to be rewarded later. Part of the serendipity of travel.

Thanks Larry.going with with the flow and flexibility is definitely the way I work. Its the only way, getting frustrated does not benefit the creative process.

Simple but effective and beautiful. The flat land is a perfect place for that tree and the soft and pastel color provide a sense of quietness that I like very much.

Ouch! I get a nasty reaction to honey bees so that would have ended my day. A lovely consolation image too. I love it when a plan B produces great results!

Thanks Matt, Paulo and Francois, I appreciate your kind feedback. We got pretty lucky to find the Big Tree so quickly after abandoning the lavender shot. Lucky my eye was not to swollen up from the bites to keep going. My wife would of been toast, and we would of been at the hospital. She reacts very badly to bites.
