I received an email from Kevin this morning. The site that he and Chris Sanderson have been working on is now up and running. https://photopxl.com/ They even have a forum for political discussions (maybe a mistake??). Enjoy.

Certainly a mistake.

Great to see Schewe there. He's been absent from LuLa all year.
Good to see some competition!
Gotta go register.... ;)

Just saw that, very cool. Hail, hail, the gangs all there. ;)

Hurray! I'm glad they are up and running. Looks good.

Many forum discussions there are currently about lorem ipsum and dummy text.
More importantly, can be the Number of Posts score for an active poster transferred from Lula to Photopxl or do you have to start from zero?
And what about banned posters? If you get banned on one site, can you still post on the other site?

Not hard to believe on the first day/

I doubt there is any coordination between the two sites. Can't image why there would be.

You take the world too seriously. Or would you stipulate that any post on the funny side has to include those yellow warning signs?
But in the interest of truth, half of the forum posts have been there for a few weeks now, so it's not the first day.

Schewe back on form

I’m excited to have a forum for me to go to again!
Looking forward to pithy and enriched discussion and debate (and mud wrestling…I missed mud wrestling)
:~)
With the old guard back ‘en masse’ says more than you need to know about this site’s recent change of ownership ...

Website probably needs some further refining.
You can create an account, but st first sight, no way to delete it (or your posts) other than emailing a request !?
-

The two sites are entirely unconnected.

Sad to see there's a forum for political bun-fighting, but given the founder's and contributor's backgrounds I'll give it a try.
-
The two sites are entirely unconnected.
Other than they share the same moderator 😂

I had a funny feeling that my facetious post will be taken seriously.

Soon you can rename Lula: the Eric and Russ show. For the rest: check out the new Playground.
::)

Your funny feeling was my 99.9% certainty. A consequence of not peppering posts with one of those [/silly-smiling-faces] 😂

So, how did the forum participants from the early days of Internet (before all those yellow circles were invented) know when to laugh and when to set the poster straight?
Can you see the day when the enlightened sites will mandate the smiley directives in all frolicsome posts?

We didn’t. Hence the infamous newsgroup flame wars. :P

Except for the shared security monitor Rottweiler. (funny yellow thingy: :D )

LuLa runs on inertia... the new site on hope.

I think there is plenty of corn here on LuLa as well. :D

You mean like Rye On The Rocks? I expected it too, but in their new video the three amigos are drinking beer from large Sun King Brewery jugs (unless that's rye in those beer jugs).

Indeed, PhotoPXL.com, Kevin Raber's new photographer's resource site, is up and running! It's filled with articles, news, reviews, tutorials, some great videos, and a host of other content that is making it a great resource for photographer's of all stripes! I'm proud to share my article, Creating Black and White Images with Your iPhone, (https://photopxl.com/creating-black-and-white-images-with-your-iphone/), and look forward to writing other articles in the next few weeks. Awesome site. Check it out! -- Rad

LuLa runs on inertia
old farts powered ... in both cases
-
I wish them well. It's not easy to start a new photography website these days.
-
In other words, the smileys made the world a safer place.
Maybe this is a bit exaggerated. :o
But it gave some characters a technique to insult while covering the back.

Too true.

On the understanding that leopards can't change their spots, why does anyone writing in this thread imagine that wearing a dead sheep's skin will make the same old leopards sound and behave any differently the moment they open their mouths in a field of grazing sheep? Especially when the sheep and the leopards go way back.
If "old" LuLa was considered moribund even during the Raber administration, and little has changed under the new, what is the name of the stupefier thingy that the new, alter LuLa has managed to distil?

Do you realise that making your first post in LuLa nothing short of an advertising blurb has turned you into a shill more rapidly than anyone else has managed to achieve before?
Interesting; I feel congratulations are in order.
Rob

I had a little smile to myself just now, thinking of a poster who remarked recently that some people were shitting all over Michael's sitting room.
Must be the new thread for irony.
:-)

Rob,
Rad Drew is a respected photographer and someone who had posted articles on LuLa's main site before. Definitely not a newbie.
-
And there they were depending on Rob's donation.
;-)

So what? It remains his first post. And it is nothing but an ad for a competent site. And with the history as-we-know-it, that makes if feel even worse.
Rob

Isn't that the case with this whole thread? I've always thought that starting it was in poor taste and a bad forum etiquette.

Very funny. But I do not want to assume what you meant. Just say it.

With that, Slobodan, I agree with you 100%. It doesn't sit comfortably, which was the point in my earlier reference to Michael's sitting room.
(I agree with you on many things, just not always on the topics we touch on in LuLa.)

Well, someone has to think* :)
* As per my motto

I have joined the race with Erik for the highest number of forum posts on photopxl! ;)
But... I will post there as a Canon user. It has always been a secret dream of mines.
Cheers,
Bernard

I've made it clear that a smiley cannot be used as a shield for rudeness.

+1
I was involved in two photo-sites (as moderator and author of gear reviews), threads like this would be locked immediately.
-

Intellectual rudeness is perfectly accepted here on Lula, Jeremy, .... (no Smileys) as long the rudeness is semantically wrapped it ‘s all fine, isn’t it?

Thank God!
I can't stand The Online Photographer site, where the author and everyone else is oh, so polite. He makes sure of that by approving every single forum post. So boring. And devoid of real life.
-
There is very little rudeness here - but then again, I don't look at the gear threads much, so I could be mistaken.
What we have here is a highly developed culture of rubber walls. And political party fixation that's stronger than religion used to be in years gone by.
We all realise that nobody is going to be able to change anyone else's mind, and so the game becomes one of internet tennis; this is perhaps somewhere in the minor leagues?
Hey, it's better than watching tv. And you don't have to pay a licence unless you want to do that and watch more - well, tv.
-
VERY COOL. Looking forward to participating there.

I tried it for a while; the back catalogue is pretty interesting to read through, but it's fatal flaw for me is that it's a blog and not a forum. Hence, there at least, you're actively discouraged from responding to other posters. So what's the point? I gave up and have never gone back. It's a shame, because Mike is a nice man and writes very well. It's the imposed format wot dunnit in for me.
Anyway, if LuLa goes, then I'll pack in most of the Internet writing too and get a life on the metaphorical sofa. :-)
Leicaphilia is another place blessed with a very good author-owner. Again, a blog, but he isn't hung up on being PC and seeks no financial backers, so speech and opinion are wide open. He also has the advantage of being a damned good photographer himself.
As with TOP, it takes a while for your posts to appear because they have to be vetted first. That can frustrate, as well as the fact that the active readership seems tiny.
Michael did a great job, and at the right time.
