I took this to be the whole point of the image. "Facts of life", life and death.

I guess I'd substitute "unintelligibility" for "ambiguity" in this case. Might make a pretty good abstract.

It's the Saint-Carolus Borromeus church in Antwerp, Belgium. Designed by Peter Paul Rubens, stuffed with Rubens finest ceiling and wall frescos, paintings, etc.
It is a popular place to get married, and also for funerals, baptism, etc....
