Very nice, Slobodan.

Nice moody shot, Slobodan.

So, how does it look in color?

Garish. Goes with the territory. But, if the sky remains blackish, colour would stand out well against it. (See what happened there? Hedged my bets! I need that doctor.)
But for the bland frame, Slobodan, a wonderfully balanced, nascent Hasselfake. Your time with them was obviously not wasted!
Do you ever use it these days - the camera, I mean? I believe that square still makes for the very best considered compositions; provides unparalleled concentration on subject.
Of course we can make great compositions in almost any rectangle, but that understood, I still think the square does it best.

Love it! The processing too. Do I see in the second gray band of clouds from the top (below the first lighter strip) some speckling of jpeg artifacts or were the clouds actually like that?

Don't be silly, David!
Stormy weather creates static in the air. How better to see it if you see it?
:-)

Shot and processed on iPhone, so it is possible.

+1.

OK, that makes sense. The best camera is the one you have with you. After seeing the original, I like what you did with it even more.Don't be silly, David!

Of course, Rob! I should have thought of that ;D I just want others to apply their imaginations to MY images! ;)

The same storm, alley view:

The original B&W is a real winner.
I guess I have to learn how to use my new iPhone. :(

A slightly more careful processing on a desktop Lightroom:

I think you may have gone too far; I preferred the first, overall. Both are stunning improvements on the original!

Could you try an attempt at the color version?
-
I agree. The original was excellent.

Really!? I thought the versions are almost identical, except for less visible artifacts.

Ah, when you ask so nicely :)
-
I think there is a different version in there somewhere. Something akin to a Crewdson filmic look, or maybe a late kodachrome americas look. Can't quite explain. I attach an attempt, but it is merely an attempt that maybe didn't quite hit it either. Perhaps you see what I mean.
-
Oscar, that is a very fine attempt. I like it. I've been deliberating about including a bit more of the foreground, and you struck the right balance. Great job!
P.S. I actually prefer it to my own color version.

Load them both and switch back and forth. The artefacts are gone, which is good. But the band of cloud across the centre is darker - too dark for my taste - and the white paintwork on the building is less white, which spoils the contrast.
IMHO.

You are probably right, thanks.

I agree with you both.
In this case, I believe colour trumps black/white. And yeah, Crewdson without the cast of extras.
-
I dig Oscar's crop, but I think the tones of the original iPhone product are the best solution. Jeremy's exactly right - the later BW process is lacking contrast.
-
Ok, here is the last version:
-
That one works for me.

Oh my, so many eyes and critiques. All quite interesting. The storm is fine, but I really like the alleyway shot.
