Title: Milkweed blooms

The common milkweed (Asclepias syriaca) is in bloom throughout Maryland. For those who haven't, you really ought to take a moment to smell these small, but fragrant flowers. And, the flowers aren't too shabby either.

well done. Not disturbing that leaf in high zone, clear composition.

You should get lots of Monarch butterflies.
Ours, in Massachusetts, haven't blossomed yet.

You are welcome.  I thought it would be interesting to compare the two from different continents.  I remembered I had taken the picture more than 10 years ago with a little point-n-shoot.  In India, they are all over the place.  As kids, we never missed the opportunity to crack a leaf and watch the white "milk" (apparently the source of poison in Monarch butterflies) ooze out.

I live in Maryland.  So how do I go about looking for these here?

They're everywhere that's semi-natural sparse woodlands or grasslands that aren't heavily mowed or manicured. If you live near Ellicott City, take a trip to Centennial Lake and venture down the path leading to the eastern shore of the lake, where you'll see hundreds of milkweeds (two or three species).

Live in Frederick.  Ellicott City is pretty close.  Need to go that way anyway, check out how they have recovered from the last big flood they had - one of these days...
