Late May 2019.

Thanks, Sandro.

Wild indeed. And some even indecent.

Initially, I wondered who Wild Martha was, and how she earned the epithet. I suspect some of these would respond well to a B&W conversion.

Thanks all.
Jeremy, I may try the B&W conversions when I have time.

Does anyone know what kind of trees these are?

Agreed.

Many of the ones with this twisted appearance are Oak trees of some sort. The ones growing within a couple hundred meters of the coast are the most twisted, from the strong coastal winds. The same trees a little further inland are tall and erect, protected from the winds by the other trees.
To be sure, I'll have to ask "Wild Martha" the next time I see her. ;)
P.S. A local newspaper article suggests that little is known about the original Martha, and even whether or not she had an actual vineyard here is in question.

Thanks Eric.
I visited the Vineyard earlier this spring and wondered about these trees myself. Your images make a nice, location-specific set.

Love the design and movement in #2, Eric.

That tree was even more contorted than some of Michel Ezra's dancers.

Fantastic, they look tentacular and ready to grab anything that comes in near them.
-
Just spotted these. Until I saw the surrounding foliage, I never would have imagined the tree trunks could be so light. You have to see these large to do them justice. I like the light airiness of the set. The second is no doubt a Medusa tree with outstretched twisted branches, each with hidden hands. You undoubtedly cropped them to hide the gruesome details ;)

Of course. I was afraid Jeremy might sensor them if I showed the blood dripping from the ends of the tentacles. :D

Beautiful set, Eric. #3 and #4 are especially compelling.

Thanks, Rajan.
