It is my practice to shoot the image by raw but I have noticed that the image after importing into LR are different from jpeg image in camera. In some cases the images are darker in LR. Why so? I have been under the impression that replay in camera monitor represents the raw image even though it is jpeg. But they are different then what is the purpose of checking the monitor after shooting. Any comments or advice appreciated.

When you ask to capture JPEG, the camera still has to produce a raw and convert internally to JPEG. It's proprietary processing. The same is true for LR when it makes thumbnails for your raws; proprietary processing hence differences. Camera matching profiles can help get closer, assuming you believe the camera processed JPEG is somehow more pleasing.

Thank you. Assuming I like the image on camera monitor and I want to see the same or very close image shown on the computer after import, what setup in computer I should make?

If you look at the Develop mode you will see Profiles. You can select the profile you wish to start with. Neutral might be the best one.
