If that's the only ordering technique available, I'd walk straight out.
Reminds me of one of my rare shoots in Florida - Ft Lauderdale: my wife, the model and I had dropped into this bar/café during the morning for a soft drink and it took forever for a waiter lad to arrive. Eventually one did, and after he left us the girl whispered: "Rob, you idot, they don't want to serve us: we're in a gay bar!" I should have noticed from the short shorts, but hey, who thinks of gay when on a shoot and thirsty? Who thinks of it anyway?

That's why they stage those in-your-face parades. You can not not think/hear/see of them these days.

There is, then, some residual value in a little resort town like mine after all!
Can't speak for the capital today, but I do remember during the 60s, on a shoot, being taken to a bar in one of Palma's yacht clubs and being shocked and physically distressed seeing, for the first time, two guys sitting and cuddling on a bench in the gloom. I could not believe my eyes. I did not want to believe my eyes.
The closest I saw to that after that was back in Glasgow during a shoot for a hairdresser, where two of 'em gave a conversational impression of being gay, but I imagined they just wanted to be seen to be playing the expected rôle of the time. Perhaps they hoped it would bring each of them one of the associated girlie cars in its wake?

It took millennia to develop that gag reflex. Ain't gonna disappear in a few years.
