I was always able to recover files from CF cards that I accidentally reformatted in my Canon cameras. I've been unsuccessful so far with recovering files on my Delkin SD card reformatted in my Sony A9. Wondershare doesn't yield anything, same thing with Card Rescue. Are there better options out there?
Thanks,
Merrill

Try Active File Recovery: https://www.file-recovery.com/recovery.html
(there is a trial version)

Thanks Ezra, but it's only for PC, not Mac.

I just received word from the professional data recovery service that there is absolutely nothing on the card. So beware!
I wonder if there would be a way Sony could allow for what I gather would be normal, rather than low-level, formatting in a future firmware upgrade.

TestDisk does brilliant job.
Only issue it doesn't solve happens when i used my Sony A900 as occasional card-reader copying some video files from Canon 5D Mk.II to PC - some appeared to be missed and never restored.
All other cases with CF and SD cards and HDD with occasional formatting, deleting or file system or file allocation table failures went well at the end.

It is up to each camera body manufacturer to decide how they "reformat" a card. Format is NOT a standard in cameras.

I had used DiskDrill last time to recover lost data from my CF card.
It does a good job. Ensure that you don't use it for any more capturing, before doing the recovery.
