Wonderful stuff, Rob. This is a guy who understands what the camera is for.

I thought you'd enjoy him, Russ!
There's a wealth of his images on the web as well as interviews, but the ones I know are all in Italian. In them, he comes out as a modest, somewhat self-effacing man. He is never reluctant to name his contemporaries and give them full credit for their work.
In one of the interviews, he says his love affair with Venice is over - killed off by tourism and the cruise ships, a story about which was turned into a book. It should never have been permitted to happen, but I guess cupididty pulls all the strings.

Thanks, Rob. Yes, he’s a guy after my own heart. He understands what identifies the genre we call “street photography.” As far as cupidity pulling the strings, I’m afraid that’s humanity’s bottom line. I think religion limited the result for a long time, but more and more nowadays self-interest tops every other interest, and there no longer seems to be a hand that will lift and say “stop.”

Thanks Rob, I knew some of his work and this series is great.

Here's another video - music and Italian writing - but even for the non-linguists the images are remarkably good and, I hope, enjoyable ones.

Thanks for the link Rob. Outstanding work. It always reminds me that bw is really a medium of tonal contrasts and some people are masters of seeing this way.

My pleasure; I fear that I may be turning into a photographic missionary!

Thanks Rob, liked these, so well observed. And the nostalgic appeal of another time and Italy helps too.
