Hello Steven, beautiful work here :) One small question, if I may. While I love the way you framed the trees on the left side of the image, I find the right side with the trees going out of the frame slightly distracting - it wouldn't bother me on a different photo, but here you went for a very graphic, "Japanese" look, and in this case I would love to see some white between the right trees and the frame's border. Perhaps you have more room in the images you merged, to leave some breathing room to the trees on the right as well? If not, and if you agree with my point, perhaps cropping into the frame slightly and cloning out the residual branches would make for a cleaner composition - just my .02 of course :)

I agree I would of preferred more room on the right hand side. The issue was the ridge of trees that interfered with the scene, there was no room to add more white area. Sometimes things in nature are what they are and you just have to go with what is in front of you. I guess I could clone in a bunch of snow to the right hand side of the image to make it breath better or clone out the ridge of trees. That is something I do not like to do, others may want to do this sort of PS work, its just not how I want to be known. I could crop in tighter and clone out the branches - Its the tree on the far right that needs to go or have major surgery of cloning. Again this is something I don't like to do.

Glad you agree with my remark about your composition, and I definitely see your point about not wanting to clone etc. In this case, since - as you perfectly put it - sometimes in nature things are just the way they are, if that was my image and if I didn't want to go the manipulation route I would probably conclude that perhaps the image just doesn't work as intended and look for a different composition, one that would satisfy me completely.
If I may offer one last consideration to your attention, I see a different image hidden in the photo you posted here. Look at the group of 5 trees on the left of the frame, which have plenty of breathing room to their right; using those trees alone would solve the problem of the crowded trees on the left while it would still tell the story of the orchard in the snow, and at the same time it would be a much simpler image, perhaps even more in tune with the "Japanese" mood and feel of your photo. Just a suggestion of course :)

Funny, I saw the same composition on the left. I shot it and just haven’t posted it to my website. Maybe I should. Mostly I sell pano images at the 1 to 3 format. So my preference is to put the panos up first. I am always surprised what sells and what people or the galleries that represent my work select for their clients. It doesn’t hurt to leave it on my site. You never know what will be selected. At this point in my career my website is a catalog of my work.

great minds and all that, I guess :) By the way, the name is Vieri ;) You are right with galleries and sales, it is always surprising to see what sells and what does not. I learned a long time ago that what sells the most and what is good to my eye do not necessarily go together all the time... ;)
