I generally like white-on-white or high key and the black gives some contrast..

I like it.

If I didn't know cranes, I might wonder where the head and the other leg are.
The crane seems to be trying to help you get that 'minimalist' effect.

I like it too! The black feathers add just enough contrast to keep it within the minimalist section.
