Here I am stuck at work 35 miles away from the heavy snow cover in the San Gabriel Mountains of SoCal. I won’t get home and closer to them until after dark.
So I settle for a 20X+ zoom view from the 6th floor, using a Nikon Coolpix L810 (which seems to have the resolution of an iPhone but a much better reach).
Suddenly I am transported to a different place where there are no IT printer and network problems… Four separate pano images were photomerged horizontally and post-processed for the final views.

The lesson here must be: Always bring your camera to work!

I went back up closer to sunset and grabbed these shots, the second of which is also photomerged, but this time 10 frames were involved.
PS: That's a landfill in the foreground (balances out the view you know...)

Continuing my snow quest today, I started at the dentist office (which was only a few miles from the mountains) and got this close-up through the waiting room window (how lucky and convenient!).
On the way back to work, I shot this pano from an overlook park in Orange County.

But now I have to ask: do you ever go outdoors for your landscape shots? ;)

Today I did! And then look – look at the rowdy crowds! ;-)
Too bad the parking lot was too far away to see this from the car...

Of course I'd rather be out and about, but it seems I'm always doing something else somewhere else when these scenes present themselves.

Clearly, your best shots are either indoors or inside a car.
That should help you avoid camera damage from wind, rain, snow, or sand storms.
I did once photograph while in a sand storm at White Sands. I was smart enough not to try changing lenses while I was out in it, but enough stuff got in anyway to leave dust spots in the sky areas on all the shots from saner locations on that trip.

As for car shots, I've seen photos on Facebook where friends visit the old neighborhood and take crooked scenic pix out the windshield, etc.
Here's an actual shot of my old house a friend sent after a visit back East...
I used to do newspaper photojournalism so I *am* capable of putting some effort into a shot, believe it or not ;-)

I'll admit that I sometimes take photos through my home office window of birds visiting my bird feeders.
My window shots aren't as good as yours, and partly because the window hasn't been washed in twenty or so years.
Maybe next summer...

OK, so today I was OUTSIDE but iNSIDE the car. Rain has come to LA, and the mountains are in a mood.
First shot, peeking between apartment buildings... Again, the long zoom saves the day.
Second shot, pulling over on an ugly side street with a better view, and the resulting artsy.

Busy scenic day today as the rain and snow have continued. Again doing the "selective scenic" zoom trick.

And then I discovered the view from the parking garage! It's behind the big "cruise ship" building in the above photo. 6th floor, a bit windy, but well worth it. I spent some time up there roaming around, watching the clouds change. Some of the best mountain/cloud combos I've ever seen in 20 years.
