I probably should have asked this years ago...I often dream of going for month long trips to photograph places like Iceland, Namibia or Utah/Nevada but as a single traveler (my wife's passion for travel photography is zero) the cost of car rental and accommodation puts me off. Instead, I rationalize that someday I'll meet a group of like-minded people interested in the same which would significantly the cost. BUT, this day never comes. I know there are ridiculously priced workshops out there but I am not interested in those. I am quite capable of creating an itinerary and arranging my own accommodation for free. So, I wonder if there are websites where photographers interested in pooling resources can meet to arrange photo travels together.

good idea. May be LL should have a section devoted to it.

Fredmiranda.com has a location advice and meetups forum.

Match Maker section ?
Not a bad idea.

I whole heartedly agree. While photographing can be a singular vision, a travel companion and shared experience makes it that much more enjoyable.

Wondering the same as well! I've tried posting to my city's subreddit, and have also heard facebook groups and meetup.com might be good options. Haven't had a ton of luck though.

I agree. I find myself in a similar predicament. I would love to meet one or more day-shoot companions too. thetime of shooting can be solitary but there is such value and satisfaction from comparing images, reflecting on the location etc afterwards!

Of course, there's one in every crowd! Prudent selection would surely eliminate some individuals.

I don't know of any websites for organizing photo travel companions. But I know many photographers that belong to various local photo groups on FB (e.g. a facebook group for photographing the city/state you live in), meet them in person for small shoots and later go on longer photo trips.
