"The latest update includes a brand new interface, a redesigned user experience, and many under-the-hood improvements."
The update is free for existing customers.
It's listed at $99.99 for new users but an unadvertised 15% discount is available (http://plugsandpixels.com/discounts.html).
I will be doing some tests soon.

Seems to work well as before, not seeing anything as far as speed improvements. Still slower on a MacPro and MacBook Pro 15" than any of my windows machines.
They took out the ability to pick both width and height, (in the older version this did not work anyway). If you picked both even if it took the image out of the normal scaling, the app defaulted back to normal scaling. I opened a case with them on this a while back.
Great tool for sure.

Thanks for your feedback Paul.
Width and height adjustment options are still there.

They are exclusive, i.e. if you pick height, you can't pick width. Older version allowed you to pick both dimensions, but output never came out right. When you uprez, most tools allow you to pick a size that scales constraining aspect ration up or a size that will change the dimensions and not constrain the aspect ratio but still uprez up. Many times I don't want the file to just scale up, instead pick a different ratio for the image. In Photoshop, this is controlled by the parenthesis (constrain-unconstrained) around your height and width. If you uncheck these, you can pick you own dimensions i.e. work "unconstrained"
Previous version of AI allowed this, but it never came out like it should. Even if you picked an exact height and width, it always used one not both, most often width.

I'm just guessing but perhaps unconstrained dimensions would put even more stress on the processing?
-
earlybird, can you please post some screenshots? Then we can discuss it on the Topaz forum.
-
Thanks, I will make them aware of this.
Here is my post (http://discuss.topazlabs.com/t/gigapixel-3-release-version-artifacts/9313).
-
are the artifacts present in the previous version?
-
I agree, I would prefer to let the program run longer if it resulted in an artifact free image.
-
additionally one thing I noticed was that you get a color image when you give it monochrome image in the 3.0 version.. I email Topaz and their response was that the algorithm was written to work in color.. so I am not surprised to see "color noise".
I think that this is a major deficiency worth correcting, even if they fix the banding artifacts.

They released 3.0.4 overnight. Not sure what it fixes. Might take care of the issues pointed out above.
If so Kudo's to Topaz, quick response.

I just compared the new one 3.0.4 to photoshop and it is not as sharp.. the 3.0 version seemed sharper to me.. so they must have fixed the problem by adding noise??
36mpx image file, increasing the image size by 200pct. then viewing at 156pct of the result
first image is photoshop, second is AIG - looks like my selection mags were not quite exact but I think good enough to make the point
-
I'm not seeing 3.0.4 on Mac, is this a Windows-only update? It's not mentioned in their official changelog.

I am running 3.0.4 on an iMac Pro

I feel left out ;-)
A manual uninstall and reinstall seems to be pulling down 3.0.4

I do not appreciate that this thread has been curated away from the Digital Image Processing section. It is discouraging to see that a moderator would choose to discourage a pertinent discussion.
I have removed all the information and photographic examples, which I had posted in a effort to provide helpful information about GigaPixel's digital image processing, in response to the act of moderation.

earlybird, this was more about me (offering discount sales links in the thread) than you. The mod informed me that I should have posted here instead.
Please reopen a thread with your helpful info back in the Digital Image Processing section.

Please, could you repost again that info and images in a new thread or maybe in this one: https://forum.luminous-landscape.com/index.php?topic=127505.40
Thank you and best regards.

This is what the Update pane on Windows revealed to me (see attached).
Besides library updates, they added an AI Model for GPU Moderate. Not sure if that AI Model doesn't work without GPU support.
Cheers,

Thanks Bart, that's what I am used to seeing, but not this time for some reason. I'm all good now.

If I had sought to discourage discussion, I'd have locked the thread. I didn't; I moved it because the original post should have been made here. There are other threads devoted to Gigapixel, and nothing to prevent you or anyone else initiating yet more.
Petulantly deleting your own posts achieves precisely nothing.

Since the post really belongs in the Processing section wouldn't it have been better just to remove the sales link and note that there is a "hidden" discount available. That way this post would be appropriately located with all the other AIG posts.

I will try that next time (ie, maintain a discussion about technical aspects of software in the Processing section while referring people to the For Sale section for any relevant discount info, which will always be the case).

Possibly: there's more than one way to skin a cat. But there are other technical threads on Gigapixel.

But there are other technical threads on Gigapixel.
Yes but the information provided by each Gigapixel thread tends to be additive and not repetitive, so sticking this thread elsewhere on the forum results in a gap in the useful chain of information located in one spot.
