Title: Ullswater in the snow
Post by: KMRennie on January 22, 2019, 04:25:17 pm
This is Ullswater in the English Lake District. Lucky enough to be taking photographs when snow started to fall and one of the steamers passed by.

The first resonates for me, (J.M.W. Turner holds a strong position on the fringe time and vision of sleep coloured by his winter storms near the sea, and even steamboats in those storms, very much like the winter powers of sea where I most feel alive. I'm not sure many associate Turner with those storms and cold, but those are how I came to love his work.) That first shot is the one I would have been happy to see, even without the boat, and framed exactly as it is... As if the excited energy is about to break into the mix.

Perfect example of why tripod holes seldom work for hit and run photographers or life absorbers. You need to be there, be willing to stay, and look over your shoulder and behind you. To see~

These are wonderful.

Just arrived in Bangkok where it's too hot and too humid and would not mind being in snow landscape.

The second and third images are just beautiful. The lack of separation of the boat from its background in the first takes away from an otherwise wonderful scene.

Superb, as we all agree. Dreamlike.  Especially the last, pano-format one for me.
Well seen and perfectly rendered.
And well tolerated, too. That is some very heavy snow.

Superb, as we all agree.

Yes. The greens look a little bright to my Canadian winter eyes, but I'll trust the local colour is faithful.
