From Northern Spain last September. I was surprised and delighted at the size of the breaking waves in what was a day of mist and only a gentle breeze. Ken

Very fine shot.

Such "surprises" arrive from a long distance, traveling over a sustained period of time. Though it reached your view in quiet air, it was still fulfilling it's needed release of energy attained much earlier in it's history. Related to the so called rogue waves on the western shores and reaches of Hawaii... A nice view~

Beautiful and simple, or to put it another way, simply beautiful.

Well done. I think a few (micro)seconds before it would have been even better, just before the wave hit the rock?

Very powerful and I like the soft colors.

Thanks everyone for the comments. I was driving along the main costal autovia on a very flat misty day when I saw this beach with the waves breaking on the sea stack. It was the drama that made me stop and navigate down to the beach. I had no idea that the surge round the sea stack would produce such subtle textures and colours, instead I thought that the breaking waves, many of which totally engulfed the stack, would be the picture. I have about a dozen images and I will slowly work my way through them to find the best, I will not bore you with them all. The first image posted the first one here were taken at f32 to produce a shutter speed of 0.3s. The second one that engulfed the stack at f10 and 1/25s. I go to capture the drama and due to my poor timing the shots that I didn't mean to take turn out much better, ah serendipity. Ken

The second one above conveys a lot more power, I like it.

All of the praise is well merited.

Me too.

This is the last of the dramatic ones. Ken

Fine stuff, Ken. I like the restraint of #1.

These are all excellent. My favorite is DSC8865.

Likewise. The original image is the one that has artistry to it.

It's the one that makes me look twice.

The image stuck in my head and I realised a name for it:
Nemo's Periscope

I must say that I prefer the first two posted photos. While the last ones show the extreme power of the ocean, I feel like I loose the sense of scale of the stack. It looks completely dwarfed by the waves. Also, as said above, for me, the first two shots are more elegant (but still powerful).
