Back the end of summer, I purchased the Dell XPS15 2-in-1. By and large, I have been happy with my purchase (though they ended up replacing the laptop in its entirety after replacing numerous components on the first one).
I purchased this notebook with the specific aim to be able to retouch on screen at times (though my primary work is on my desktop). I'm used to using a Wacom tablet and thought this would be a piece of cake. Unfortunately, I find it MUCH trickier with response lag compared to my Wacom tablet. I had purchased the Dell Premium Stylus (a pricey $99 value) to do this work.
Are my issues just with my system or does this seem to be the case when using a stylus versus fingers? Thanks.

As you know I switched from the Dell XPS 15 to the HP Zbook X360 Studio G5. It came with a stylus but it's not my thing so I've not used it yet, in fact I didn't take it with me while away for 2 weeks over the holiday.
If you send me some examples of what you do I'll try to replicate it on the HP and give you some idea how it works.

I may take you up on sending you a file and tell you the kinds of things I would do to retouch and see how it works for you. As I mentioned, I don't use it often, but the times I have I've found it irritating. I do love the combo of touch and mouse/trackpad when working in Capture One. And, wow, do I love the 4K. Are you liking the Zbook? How is the screen and performance?

I was away for 10 days with it over the holidays, 1st chance to really check it out and was very happy with it. No USB dropouts, and no real chokes. I ingested ~4500 images and exported ~250, including a healthy number of stitches and HDR images. I did a handful of lightpainted images where a dozen or more end up in layers in PS but didn't have time to process them. I'm still using the original 16GB RAM that came with it, and I doubt I'll bother upgrading to 32GB. I used it as a big viewing tablet a couple of times, much nicer than the 8" tablet. So far very happy.
I don't have C1 loaded but I'm licenced up to V9 Pro if I can't do in PS what're doing

I do all my retouching and post work in both Lightroom and Photoshop. I use C1, mainly, for tethered capture.
Sounds like the laptop is doing a good job for you. The issue you had with the Dell was my problem as well. It was rectified by a new (actually 2 new) MBs. They also replaced the display. The last item was a daughter card for the USB-C ports. Since the parts were on backorder, they ended up finally replacing the laptop. since then, zero issues (knock on wood). The only issue I've had, and it may really be Windows in a way or Intel, is forcing the laptop to use the AMD Radeon graphics, not the anemic Intel embedded graphics card. I couldn't figure out why some things in Photoshop or something else were taking so long to complete. It was the system defaulting to the embedded Intel card.
