Title: Perspective - The long view

The first is appealing, for its zig-zag element. The second is too much going on, with zig-zag not that obvious and the addition of puffy clouds distracts from it further.

I agree.  I like the first, and simpler, image better.

Agreed. The first works better. The second gives too much of the ‘story’ away.

Having said that, I find both too ‘narrow, or maybe it’s just the 4x5 (4x3) in me talking.

I agree with Terry.  Crop about 10% off the top and bottom on both. Certainly on #2 the bottom bit with the path adds nothing.
I prefer the overall balance of shapes in #2.  The clouds, mainly.

Those mountains keep insisting on hiding just their juicy bits!  So enjoyable.
