Title: 2019 Lunar Eclipse Western US shooting locations?
Post by: ThomasR99 on January 03, 2019, 09:22:57 am
Located in Seattle, so if the weather isn't good around here, looking for suggestions on a location to shoot the eclipse within about a 2 day drive.  I have 8 days off around the eclipse date so enough time to get somewhere, settle in, do the shooting and get back home before the boss expects me back at work.  I'd like a location where facing East (the direction of the eclipse) I'd have an interesting foreground and can get good shots of the moon.  Looks like moonrise will be at about 90 +/- degrees bearing and by the end it will be of course higher and a bit more Southward in the sky.  If the weather breaks around here I can get good shots by the Space Needle, perhaps even down by Mt. Rainier.  If not...where would you go?
Thanks all
Thomas.

My plan is for Death Valley.  It’s about as likely a place I know for clear skies and it remains open, despite the government shutdown.  Plenty of east facing compositions.

The moon is going to be 40-50deg in the sky at the time of eclipse. My current plan is shoot in a downtown area and use a building as a foreground.
