Received an email from B&H, can order a Pro-1000 for $1299 - $300 (mail in rebate for use anywhere credit card) - $299 (use an included code at checkout). A Pro-1000 at $699 (their math, not mine) is tempting....

That's about the cost of a set of ink for it. Are the cartridges that come with it full or "starter" cartridges? Murphy's Camera in KY has the Pro-10 for $299.99 minus a $200 rebate (use anywhere card) making it $99.99 final cost. Good time to buy printers! I bought a spare Pro-10...use the ink now and have a backup head and printer.

The b&H specs call out 80ml cartridges, no mention of starter sizes.

I've given serious thought to buying a Pro-1000 and seems like I read somewhere that it comes with 45ml starter cartridges. I may be wrong. Someone else on here I'm sure can answer that. Regardless, that is still a great deal. The think I like about the Pro-1000 is apparently it doesn't require you to leave a 30mm boarder at the top and bottom of prints on art paper like my Pro-10 does.

Cartridges may be filled differently in different countries. When I bought mine (in Germany) about a year ago, the cartridges were completely filled.

According to Canon USA, they're full 80 ml cartridges. That's a great deal - the PF-10 print head it uses sells at B&H for $675 alone (it can be somewhat cheaper other places). Amusingly, it's the same print head found in the Pro-2000, 4000, 6000 series... If you had one of the big printers that needed a head, the way to get it would be to buy a Pro-1000, put the head in your big printer, then sell the ink to someone who had a Pro-1000 (unless you had one yourself - I'm some sure people have both a Pro-1000 and one of its big brothers, because the 1000 feeds small sheets better). The problem is that it leaves you with an 80 lb printer...

Dan- the pro-1000 doesn't use the same head as the larger models. Since the 17" version offers smaller ink droplets, it won't work the same on the 24-60" versions; but it's the same technology.
Canon doesn't even state the head is available to buy so you can replace yourself:
https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/professional-large-format-printers/professional-photo-fine-art/imageprograf-pro-1000/imageprograf-pro-1000
I believe we were told around the time of launch that it was in the process of having them available to purchase, but haven't heard any update of it happening. If there are issues with the head, you probably get a replacement unit from Canon most likely; unless they have it available to send you upfront so you can replace the head yourself.
And the Pro-1000 inks are full 80ml with printer. The smaller size could very well be from an international location as the printers themselves are also named slightly different. Like an Epson T7370 in the USA could be a T7375 in another country.

PRO-1000 does use the same PF-10 head as the bigger roll models PRO-2000,4000,6000 and models with different regional names. I have a spare PF-10 one and this is what the box reads:

Never had a printer suck ink like a canon I will never buy one of their printers again

Expired last year, haven't seen a new one.

yes, that was until 1/1/19
Was strongly considering getting 2 of them just for the extra full set of ink and head.
