Just read this terrible news on Facebook, and apparently confirmed on the website
https://www.facebook.com/LTypePrinting/posts/2109099139420426
Does anybody know any detail?
So sad :(

Well, that was a useful jog Francesco. Like you, I just went to their website looking for additional information, and here is what they say:
<< Sorry, we have closed down.
<<Unfortunately, the journey of L.Type is over.
....................
<<Here are some useful documents which can help answer some frequently asked questions, and help you prepare your images files so you have everything ready to send to print when we re-open. >>
So on the one hand "the journey of L.Type is over", but on the other hand it says they will re-open. Isn't that interesting? When? As what?

To be honest, I have not seen a real print before, even it has the best quality of color print, but there are still a few problems with this product:
Size can’t go bigger than 12”(?) Big print is a huge demand and this is how you can make your money back in a quicker way.
It uses traditional fuji(?) c-print paper. It’s hard to convince people to pay more than what they are paying already (Adorama pix)
High investment in technology always not a good direction for such a small company. Imagine you have invest 1 million on the hardware and software, how many prints you have to make to get your investment back?
So, their liquidation isn’t surprising me at all.
Yes, it is sad to see how hard to survive in high end imaging business......

I know the owners personally and I know they tried very hard and they did try and in my opinion as expressed here on this site in articles offer a great product. On my last conversation with them I know they were struggling and I slo heard they were working on engineering a printer that could use the technology to do bigger prints. We'll see if they re-open under new owners or what. In the mean time I'll try to get in touch with Huw the owner and have a chat with him.
