Title: Cotton Carrier, close but not quite...
Post by: guido on November 14, 2018, 10:37:59 am
Lovely idea, but it doesn't work and play well with tripod use. If they made an Arca compatible camera attachment, I'd buy one in an instant. But not. Oh well...

Good point, but this was not designed with carrying a tripod at the same time.  While it might be a pain, if you needed a tripod you'd have to set it up and the only thing you'd have to do is attached a tripod plate for whatever tripod you were using.  You don't need to remove the Cotton Carrier plate as it allows for screwing in the tripod plate.  This product was meant for the active shooter like sports, biking, skiing etc where a tripod would not be used.

This isn't a big deal for me. My L bracket has a suitable 1/4 x 20 screw tap, and some lenses I carry by the foot. The button is easy enough to remove when needed. In fact, one of the things that is annoying is that the button tends to loosen over a long hike, and then when you turn the camera to remove it from the slot, the button is reluctant to turn (give it a jiggle and it rights itself - but I carry the provided screwdriver on a chain attached to the vest.

I believe that they now have an integrated Arca-style plate-button. I know that they have a binoculars holder-button.

It is not quite as dire as I initially stated. They have added an Arca style plate since I used the first generation strap mounted version for hiking with my old olympus. But the plate looks very short and the limited dovetail makes me think it would be tough to center the camera on the head clamp.

A good effort but not quite there...
