Black/white always comes back to me as the genuine language of photography. Somebody else wrote this elsewhere, but I find myself in full agreement. I feel colour turns it into illustration which is another discipline, I think. It also seems to mark the difference, in some ways, between the needs of commercial work and photography done for the self.

Maybe, at some level, that mindset is why I don't really get enthused about the pixel race and all the rest of the sometimes incidental stuff that constitutes photographic conversation.  Anyone bothering to look at my pix quickly sees that I add gain and all kinds of stuff to remove the perfectionist technical imprint that, for me, marks the soullessness of much photography. Unfortunately, that isn't a panacea either.
