Title: Epson P800 - Dumped too much ink on a print under wrong profile: ? clean-up ?
Post by: Mark20D on October 10, 2018, 11:35:24 pm
I set up a print for Epson Premium Luster and accidentally put EPSON glossy paper through the printer (perhaps one glass of wine too many...).  It was a runny mess.  Some over spill must have gotten on the print heads.  I've run a bunch of plain paper through, but am still getting some excess ink on the start of prints.  Any advice on how to clean this up?   Thanks in advance....

think you have a different problem.  Not sure what kind of glossy paper. you used, but the ink load is about the same for both papers and running Epson PG with an PL profile will not really yield much of a visual difference.

Now if you put that glossy paper in upside down so it printed on the RC backing, yeah, it might leave some ink but even that usually doesn’t mess the printer up that bad.

My immediate thoughts were the same as Wayne's - these papers aren't different enough to cause pooling of ink; you have some other problem. I recommend calling Epson Prographics tech support - the phone advice is free.

Slightly OT, but I experienced just that recently.

Printing from LR with a particular profile the margins weren't as I had specified, and I couldn't find where I had some setting wrong. So I tried a different profile and made another print on the back side of the original bad print. The result was a black, gooey mess on the print. Out of curiosity, I kept the print around for three weeks and the ink hadn't completely dried!

That was my first time intentionally printing on the wrong side, and it was quite interesting. But as messy as the print was, the printer was just fine (P800.)

You are welcome, any time; but has there been a resolution of the issue?

Wayne Fox had the correct diagnosis:  I inadvertently printed on Epson glossy paper upside down.  I ran a bunch of sheets of plain paper through with some significant clearing of the smearing.  I also have given it several days to "dry".  Prints today look back to normal.

Thanks again to all who replied.

PS   This is the print I was working on.  It is a recent picture taken in Death Valley composited with a shot of my mother and aunt taken in 1934 when their father, a naval officer, was working with a CCC group(Civilian Conservation Corps) working on roads there and later in Yosemite.  Quite the story to be a naval officer assigned to Death Valley and to be able to say you learned how to swim in Death Valley (at the Furnace Creek Inn Pool)!

I'm glad you got it sorted.
That is a fine memento!
