Title: Refilling Canon Pro100 cartridges
Post by: tcphoto1 on October 10, 2018, 09:11:32 am
I am curious to hear about others experience refilling ink cartridges. In the past, I simply purchased replacements but I have a few sets of Canon Pro100 ink cartridges and I'm interested in refilling them. So, I've ordered the ink which should be delivered later in the week. The savings seems to be worthwhile, will I also need to buy a device to reset the individual cartridges?

Hello,
may be you are here in the wrong forum. If you want to know more about refilling it is better to watch https://www.printerknowledge.com/.
By the way there is no problem with refilling Pro-100 cartridges. If you use OEM cartridges, which is best, you need a resetter.
To get more knowledge go to youtube and search for jtoolman. Watch his videos and you are prepared for everything you have to know.

I have been refilling pro-100 cartridges for a couple of years now.
I use precision color inks and resetter.
Easy to do.  Yup, every couple of weeks when I refill my hands get colored, otherwise no issues.
I have probably refilled the present set 40+ times, and almost finished with my 2nd set of inks, 8oz.
I use them as test prints and give aways.  I have never had anyone complain about fading- but I have never really tested it- works fine for my workflow.
I would never sell one of these prints- I have two pigment printers with oem inks for that.
I use this for throwaways and test.  It is easy to do.

The printing forum on www.dpreview.com is a good place to get tons of tips and advice on refilling.  I use the Precision Colors ink to refill cartridges for my Pro 100.  Once you get the hang of it the process is fairly easy and quite cheap.  You definitely need to have two sets of cartridges to make it worthwhile.  Advice is to swap out all/most of the cartridges when one needs refilling and to not let them get completely empty since that messes up the sponge in the cartridge.  I have printed thousands of pages for a special project I did where archivability wasn't an issue.  I haven't had any problems although I did get better results with the profiles I generated with i1Studio than the canned profiles from Precision Colors.  All in all, a great solution if you care about cost more than longevity.  And if you want to reduce costs even further the Costco/Kirkland Glossy Photo Paper prints exceptionally well on the Pro-100.  Using that paper and Precision Colors ink the cost of an 8x10 print drops below $0.20.

As an aside, even though it is a bit silly to use Precision Colors ink with the expensive Mitsubishi Pictorico White Film media the "pop" you get with dye inks and that media is astonishing.
