Title: FINAL OUTCOME ! Broncolor Verso A4 RFS upgrade
Post by: Balafre on October 03, 2018, 02:32:33 pm
Hello! Does anyone know if it's possible to install an upgraded more modern Bron RFS2.1 module into a Bron Verso A4 ? Has anyone done it? What's involved? Any light shed here will be appreciated !  Many Thanks !

NEWS!: The answer is yes. I'm having one fitted as of now. I'll update this post with results anon.

ANSWER!!! = YES, and very satisfactory. Cost in NZ$1,783 (!) approx US$1,212. Works with RFS 2.1 & 2.2. Operation is faultless. Not the cheapest but gives my A4 Verso full on-location ability and it's native 2,400 kJ x 3 heads is 200% the power and runs 150% more heads than a Move... I'm VERY happy.

Thank you for the information. Does your Verso support HS after the upgrade?
I have a RFS Verso A2 with a dead battery and plan to sent it for service.

Thanks.

Yevgeny, my apologies of the delay replying. I use a P1 XF and leaf shutter lenses that sync at up to 1/1600-1/2000th but there's no native ability of the RFS2 or Verso to communicate with either this or any other camera body to allow speed matching. The Scoro will function like a strobe light and the light burst freezes the motion but if using a camera reliant on shutter curtains then the cameras native synch speed is still fixed. There are work-arounds/improvisations - what do you need to shoot?

No it does not. The pack has to have the capability and just adding RFS 2.2 just brings you current with the transmitters.

I see a lot of devoted Verso owners, they are great packs. But technology has moved on and the Move packs are the only portables with ECTC (Enhanced Colour Temperature) and HS, plus light weight lithium batteries.

I've been shooting for 30+ years with Profoto and Broncolor and after buying a couple Move 2 head kit's I reach for them first even in the studio.

Never say never!
The key thing is that no one tool can perform all manner of tasks, and fully understanding what you need to do will often let you backwards-engineer to identify the optimal solution.
Only Yevgeny knows what his needs are and what latitude he has over his constraints.
Sometimes to move forward we need to un-learn what we have learnt, and the only way to do this is to have mastery over your tools. This kind of abstraction is part of photography's attraction.

You're stating the obvious. I'm not sure why you feel the need to do so, but hey knock yourself out.
