Title: For Sale

I knew I would get your attention, and did not want to work this into the other conversation going on.

Where do people sell and buy high-end and specialty cameras on the web. i.e.:  H1, Alpa, Silvestri, Rollei, Schneider, Cambo, Leaf, Phase One......

I am familiar with a website called www.Audiogon.com which is THE place for used high end audio equipment.  I have bought and sold many pieces of high end equipment there and it feels like a great community of buyers and sellers.  They have a website called Photogon which is based on the same system, but has never really gotten enough traffic.

Do we have options for used sales, other than ebay, which anyone has had success with?   I have a little trouble believing that in the last six months only 2 - Alpa 12 series lenses have traded hands on the used market (and both just this week on ebay).  Am I missing something?

Two weeks ago Ebay UK had a Hasselblad 300mm 2.8 lens which went for about £8,000. The fact that Ebay's not exactly overflowing with modern Alpa gear and P45's reflects the reality that speciality and digital medium format is an incredibly narrow market rather than any lack of reach on Ebay's part.

My workflow in selling is as follows:
I offer it first at the buy and and sell at Fred Miranda.
If that doesn't sell the item in the first few days, I'll put it on eBay.
I either use Buy-it-Now or sell at at auction.

I always got reasonable prices for the gear I've sold and only had one problem with a scammer.

I recently sold my Zork PSA and I had over 2000 views of the ad and I had 90 people watching the auction.

It would be great if LL also had a buy and sell section.

Regards,
Willem.

I usually put it first up for sale on a Dutch (that is where I live) equipment site and after a couple of weeks I put it up for auction on Ebay.

I usually get a fair price for most stuff I put up for auction.

I wonder where all the backs go that have been traded in. I have heard from several sources that these are meant to be destroyed to protect the market for newer backs. Can anyone here confirm this or direct this to fairytale land?

Please mr destroyer can I have one to modify for Infra Red only shooting! A P25 will do nicely. Sounds plausable but sad.

Ok,

I have signed up at Fred Miranda.  Just making sure I wasn't missing something.  Always afraid the group is getting together without me and having a fun time

I also figured that if on any given day on Audiogon someone is selling something like this just a short drive from my house, ....

http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?anlgtabl&1166133164 (http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?anlgtabl&1166133164)

or 1100 lb. speakers

http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?spkrfull&1166073169 (http://cls.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?spkrfull&1166073169)

that there must be a whole lot more fetishy camera gear for sale out there somewhere.

Thanks for the advice.  I have some "favorite" searches on Ebay which emails me every day that something new is added which matches one of the searches.  If anyone wants any of my Alpa stuff just set up a favorites search over on Ebay.  I am sure some time in the next few years I will be selling a lens or two.

Thanks for all your feedback.

-Eric

Eric, you may also check out Photogon at  http://www.photogon.com/ (http://www.photogon.com/) but I'm not sure they are a heavy weight in pro sales.
