If the announced lens is anything like the old 1:1 macro 125mm f/2.5 Apo-Lanthar, this should be an amazing lens.

Being optimized for the sensor, supporting Exif data and in-body stabilization. Are you sure ?
It looks very promising.

Quite true, but currently it is for the Sony mirrorless cameras and won't be of use for Nikon and Canon dSLR cameras. The short flange to sensor distance of the mirrorless cameras would be problematic for adapting the lens to dSLR cameras that have a longer flange distance. The reverse adaption (dSLR to mirrorless) can be done with an adapter.

Oh, I am happy with the old-timer on my Canon. But here's something in native E mount for the Sony crowd.

Happy with the old timer on my Sony-the tripod foot on the Canon/FE adapter is needed-hand hold this lens is not for us old folks

I am still using it on a mirror-slapper with an L bracket and tripod. ;) Actually, I have some success at 1:2 hand-held with high-frame-rate burst shots, for when I am chasing bugs moving from flower to flower.
