Title: Informal Portraiture is not Street
Post by: RSL on May 31, 2018, 03:15:16 PM
I used to see this guy on the streets of Colorado Springs. One late evening in 2001 as I walked by him he said, "Take my picture." So I took his picture. The light was failing and I was shooting with an Olympus 3040Z, which was a good point-and-shoot in its day, but not quite adequate for this. He said, "I didn't see no flash," which illustrates an advantage a reasonably sensitive digital had for street photography in those days. I made him a small print and gave it to him the next time I saw him. A couple years later I saw him in the bus station. He was very blind and being steered around by a friend. Evidently he'd been drinking methanol.

Good story although sad. Addiction is so destructive.
But I like the shot. I think I even get the genre.  8)

This guy was looking particularly stylish one morning and I asked to get a photo on my way to the office. I don't normally do that but it just struck me that he looked like an interesting character in a movie.
It was a little snowy out but we were under an awning so it was like a big softbox shining in from the street. I think he is a real cowboy but was on his way to a date or something. No sad cowboy story to go with him that I know.

I must try to find one of those hats that come with built-in hair.

Hey, without offending anyone, I don't want to look gay!

Old cowboy or white-soul singer would be just dandy. A little bit of Willie Nelson, for example.

I always associated the mullet more with rednecks than gays.

I thought of them in connection with boy bands, but as I avoided watching them like the plague...

Depending on the era, I think the reverse mullet (http://transbeauty.website/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/reverse-mullet-haircutproper-hair-for-any-where.jpg) is more of a boy band thing.

Maybe you'd prefer a curly hair with that hat? And a cigar?

Give that lady a cigar.

These characters have a neat business plan, charge multiple punters for posing without ever having to renew the cigar.

Better yet: don't get lung cancer, only mouth cancer!
