Oscar was a Scottish photographer who was born in Italy. He studied at Glasgow School of Art and worked around Scotland but always seemed to produce his best images from Glasgow.
A few years ago I purchased a book about Oscar's work called "Waiting for the magic". While waiting to pay for the book in the shop (some magic happened), I was astounded to open a page and see myself in a shot taken at a football game in 1963.

I knew Oscar slightly; my last employment was in a studio in Berkley Street, up near Charing Cross, and two of the other photographers there knew him. As far as memory serves (this was 1965), Oscar was up Woodlands Road somewhere, and we went to see him one lunchtime. As we both had an Italian background, and I had a relative in Rome who sent me Italian magazines, I asked Oscar if he'd like to have these when I'd finished with them. He was keen, so I gave him a pile I had lying around the house.
His main interest was filming documentaries, as far as I can remember - or at least I think that's where he earned his living.

I saw an exhibition of his work once at the Kelvin Art galleries, and also a documentary somewhere recently that concentrated on that cover image you posted, as well as doing a "then-and-now" story on a couple of the kids in the close-up zone; it must have included you! If so, it's likely you have a link to the programme, though if it was on the Beeb, they make it very hard to see anything abroad after it has been screened!
