Title: Trying to print on dark brown paper

First I know it's not photographic printing... it's for a cover for a handmade book.

But my Epson won't even let me load it.   Too thick for the regular sheet feeder, when i put via Front feed or Rear feed, the printer rejects it.

Thoughts?

The printer may be sensing that the paper has been 'inked'. Not sure what Epson's protocol is on paper sensing. Is the paper absolutely smooth? What printer? You should be able to call an Epson tech to get the answer. BTW, the Epson ink is transparent, except for black, so the print will look like crap if it is color.

Depends on the sensors used in loading. If they are mechanical like a simple switch or using infrared light then you have a good chance it will load a colored or already printed paper. For example the HP Z3200 and Z3100 that I have. If the sensors use white light it can be a problem as it sees no difference between the sheet and the darker printing bed.

If you can’t turn the sensor off, you can tape a 1” leader to your paper to fool it. It’s a common trick in the B&W world. Low tack masking tape is good for minimising damage to your good paper.

Our old Canon 6100 would allow anything through the thick feed, clear plastic and timber veneer. We used to put veneers through it and print strong highly saturated stuff. Then glue the veneer under pressure to 1/4 " mdf.  Good for certain non-photo images.

Cheers All, I will try the masking tape...  It's just for black ink on the cover as a title.
