Title: Wall art / graffiti
Post by: stamper on May 15, 2018, 10:18:32 am
Does anyone think that wall art / graffiti qualifies as Street?

Hmm...I need to sit and think about that for a while.

Sure it qualifies as "street," even though it doesn't qualify as "street photography." It's another example of why we need a better word for images that grab human existence and give it a shake.

My recently published, handy little guide to street photography terminology will tell anyone concerned right away that the image belongs in the Street Art category.

Thanks for reminding me of my ventures with the 'phone, Keith!

Suddenly, rather than of Lolita, it reminds me of Sally Mann's kid.

I call it urban photography.

Personally I find pictures of graffiti only a reproduction of somebody's else art.
I hope nobody coms with the idea to post pictures of living statues in the streets of NY or Barcelona.....

To a large degree, you are right. However, there's more than a subtle difference between making a copy of an existing piece of art and using it to make something else out of it and the peculiarities of its position or whatever else strikes the photographer as remarkable.

Living statues are part of the life on the street; as such, perhaps it's fair to consider them valid targets or, if you prefer, subjects... However, maybe they might think of themselves as models if you try to snap them, encouraging the demand for a little modelling fee.

Now there an object lesson, stamper: as of now, the top pic has 13 viewers to the 3 of the second, proving yet again, were proof necessary, of the amazing drawing power of boobs, even as mere representations thereof.
