Title: An Extended Wait
Post by: RSL on May 05, 2018, 11:33:30 am
Here's one where I had to crop. I was sitting across the hallway with the Pen-F and a 25mm Leica lens (50mm equivalent). No way to stand up and walk over in front of 'em and no zoom.

Ha, classic. ... The silhouette of the cop's rear, frame left, adds to the seen.

Actually it's Olive Garden, and the cop on the left is the maitre d. It strikes me as being sort of Martin Paar-like, which isn't my usual thing.

It's very expressive.

I have to wonder whether a B&W version would work as well. The colors aren't the subject, but they do seem to me to add to the mood here.

That's a surprise--the shadowy maitre d appears to have a walky talky and/or a billy club. ... It's a great shot--perfect stolen moment.

Actually that is a walky talky. She's in contact with her helpers. It was a busy day.

We're getting plenty of pictures of seals, birds, icebergs and ice caves, trees, rocks, sunsets, flowers, pets, landscapes, and dozens of other scenes that don't include people here on LuLa. Of course I understand why. Shooting people -- effective street photography in particular -- requires you to screw up your courage and face the possibility that somebody might speak a discouraging word if they see you shoot their picture. It also requires you to learn what the Shadow knew: how to cloud men's minds. Of course you always have less success with that when you're dealing with women, but you need to learn to do that too.

I'll go way out on a limb and say that any human is more interesting than a seal, a bird, an iceberg or ice cave, a tree, a rock, a sunset, a flower, a dog or a cat, or a landscape. Yet we have a landscape showcase but no street showcase.

I should have titled this post "Street Photography." Next time I'll try to remember to correct that.

Chris, this is one that could go on street. If you run across it.
