Title: Swirling bubbles

This is one of my favorite kinds of shot to take and a favorite location for these too.

I like to watch those shapes and lines. I don't much care about the background as my eyes a literally glued to the swirling waters.

I have played with tighter shots and crops and although it doesn't seem like we need the background I like it a lot better in the shot than not. Without it the water could be anything which could be cool but I like it as water and the contrast between the surreal swirls and relatively ordinary setting.

It's an interesting shot, but I cringe to think what is in the water to make the bubbles stable that way...

I'm pretty sure I know. This is in cattle country and the water is coming up.  :-\

While it is an interesting shot and angle for study, I found the colour cast to be overpowering. When removed, the background has far more meaning to the overall scene and it extenuates the action of the swirl for the swirl and not the colour.

Chris, in your version the foamy stuff at bottom left gives me the creeps. If I were gonna change Matt's colors I'd change 'em all the way to monochrome.

Any water that has a substantial amount of natural material falling into it (leaves, etc.) will often have foam hanging around the shoreline. Organic material decays and forms surfactants, hence the foam. High mountain streams don't see this because they are largely oligatrophic, as opposed to lower elevation waters which have slowed, warmed, and collected lots of organic material and hence are mostly eutrophic. I learned those words from my biologist neighbor and rarely get to use them.  ;D
