Title: HP Z3200ps - best bios - should I update?
Post by: HCHeyerdahl on May 02, 2018, 03:58:19 am
I have an almost 10 year old 24 inch HP Z3200ps.  It is still running the factory installed bios TR12-RB-9.0.0.2.  Is there any reason to upgrade it to a newer version?  I have read some posts by users reporting issues when updating, and not being able to go back to the previous version.  However, those posts are several years old.

I am running the printer from WIN 7 and WIN 8 and both work fine, but expect to start using it from a new WIN 10 Pc soon

I ask this because I don´t want to do it myself, and I am expecing a technican to come and do some service on my printer (change belt and wast tanks).

I'm only familiar with computer BIOS and the general rule of thumb is if your PC is well behaved you don't need to update the BIOS.  Usually only those who are overclocking their computers need to do so to prevent instabilities with the overclock.  If your printer is working well you probably don't need to do anything at all.  The only thing to be aware of is whether the printer will function OK under Windows 10 which automatically updates drivers.  I would check with HP to make sure there are no conflicts.  I've kept my PC on Windows 8.1 as right now I don't need any of the Windows 10 features.

Thank´s for your reply.

I am also only familiar with BIOS on PC, and generally I do not update it if things are working Ok.

However, I seem to remember reading something about a "major" update to the BIOS for the printer, but I am not sure.  On the other hand I also remember reading posts reporting problems after some minor updates.

Hopefully someone with experience regarding BIOS updates on this printer reads the post and chimes inn before my technican comes to change the belt.

I think you mean "firmware," not BIOS (although they may amount to the same thing).

I've updated the firmware on my Z3200 non-PS just as a matter of  course as I trust HP to know what they're doing and, more importantly, not spend money writing an update unless is was necessary.

Thanks,

perhaps I should just trus HP and use the oportunity and ask the technican to do the upgrade when he is here.

What was the issue you could not do that but solved now as I see?

Ernst,

my issue is not related to the firmware.

However, I have a technican coming to change the belt and wondered if I should ask him to upgrade the firmware too - and if I do which version is recommended?

I am currently running the factory installed firmware from 10 years ago. Works fine on WIN 7.  However, I have a new WIN 10 comming and would like to print from that one too.
