I'll be the first to admit that the digital society has left my writing hand weaker then it once was and I can no longer write non-stop for hours on end without my hand becoming sore beyond use, but I would never think about having a machine write a personal letter, or worse my holiday cards I send to clients, for me.
This just depresses me on so many levels.
On the bright side, maybe this will bring back cursive and young people will start to be able to read it again.

Wow, that IS sad, the machine reminds me of one of those 80's era office plotters used for making paper graphs for staff meetings etc.

This reminds me of a scene in "Foundation", where Isaac Asimov mis-predicts word-processors. The user was dictating to a machine that directly wrote with a pen, so that every mistake required starting the whole page again!
P. S. Cursive can die out for all I care; I wish instead that more schools taught elegant "italic" hand-writing, which can be as fast as cursive, and more readable:

I'm sure we all have very real things to be sad about, this is not one.

Might be a prudent thing to do. With written communications, there is a fine line between sarcasm and stupidity. A lot of posters include a "/s" at the end to indicate that the post is not to be taken literally but considered sarcastically.
There was nothing in your post that indicated any sarcasm. You might want to keep that in mind before accusing someone else of not having a sense of humour. A wise man looks toward himself before blaming others.
If this is not the saddest thing you have seen in a while, why did you entitle your post "the saddest thing I've seen in a while"?
Perhaps a better and more accurate title could have been along the lines of "here is something I found amusing/strange". That would have prevented any misunderstanding.

Joe, it's just another manifestation of political correctness and punctiliousness; best just ignoring it and staying happy - there are always those out there who pick nits as they do their nose.

For the record, the usual weapons are actually low powered.
Muzzle energy:
.223 = 1220 foot pounds (AR15)
7.62x39 = 1650 (AK47)
12 ga. slug = 2700 (standard deer load)
.30-06 = 2900 (standard deer rifle)
.338 Mag = 4000 (standard elk rifle)
.50 BMG = 13,400 (Barrett rifle)

A knife = 69 J (or 51 foot pounds if you must use that as your unit of measure) https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10605074
I'd say 1627 J is a lot more than 69 J, so it's reasonable to say the rifles are high powered weapons (even if they're not particularly high powered rifles), when it comes to personal weapons for killing people.

My wife's mother and my mother had the most beautiful cursive. I was trained in grade school to write in cursive which was distinctive but not really beautiful. Additionally I was trained to draw lettering in mechanical drawing and architectural drawing in high school and college. My lettering was so good I was offered a job by Lockheed to work in their huge drafting department - which I turned down. The thought of lettering drafting documents 8 hours a day did not appeal to me and as it turned out machines replaced many draftsman.
Cursive hand writing will possibly disappear from the mainstream and I don't think that is a tragedy. If the need isn't there why bother. Word processors are much more productive.

My wife's mother and my mother had the most beautiful cursive.
I pretty much only write in cursive, and really would love to improve my calligraphy skills this year, if I have time. It's May already! ???
Anyway, I always get random compliments on my handwriting, like at least once a month, which pisses my wife off to no end. Her handwriting, whether she prints or writes, is, um ... word processors certainly serve her well.
