I've got a handle on the very basics of Photoshop, but would really like to become more expert. Can anyone point me to decent books/courses/urls? Should I bother with Photoshop for Dummies? Or the "Idiot's Guide" series?

Hi Alexis,
There are tons of free tutorials on the web, though it seems you may have already been there/done that. The books you mentioned are a good starting point, but you seem ready for something more.
It's time to move up to professional training, such as lynda.com (which beamstream mentioned) and other such offerings.

Designs By Mark (http://plugsnpixels.com/101pstips.html) has fun and over-the-top Photoshop training; Total Training (http://plugsnpixels.com/totaltrainingpscs2.html) is more serious yet quite accessible, with big-name trainers.
Alain (http://plugsnpixels.com/blcomposition.html) from Beautiful Landscape is a high-end landscape photographer, and he's got a new DVD out that takes you through the entire process of photography from shooting to selling.
So out of all this stuff, I think you'll be set!

It really depends what you want to focus on and what your goals are. There are a lot of tutorials available on the web and the suggestions above are all very much to the point.
