Title: Winter in Killarney - Ontario
Post by: luxborealis on February 25, 2018, 07:00:20 pm
Last weekend, Kerry Little and I were up in Killarney Provincial Park on the Canadian Shield for some winter landscape photography. Killarney is Ontario's crown jewel of a provincial park with rugged hills of white quartzite and equally rugged ridges of pink granite. Although the weather has been mixed as of late with snow and rain and rain and snow, we had a weekend of truly wonderful winter light.

Here are a few shots from the long-weekend we spent there. I have a longer description on my blog (http://luxborealis.com/blog/?p=2574).

I photographed using my Nikon D800E, Sone RX-10iii and my iPhone 8 Plus - all using raw capture and processed in Lightroom standalone.

It looks like a splendid outing, Terry.

I'm very much curious which camera you used for each of photos 3, 4, and 5 in your blog, since my main camera is now the RX10iii, and my wife has an iPhone.

#3 on my blog was made with the Sony RX-10iii
#4 and #5 the Nikon D800E, but could easily have been done with the RX-10iii.

It's really only the astrophotography that can't be done well with the RX-10iii or the iPhone. And the only limiting factor with the iPhone is fixed focal lengths of 28mm and 56mm.

All good, Terry, but I love the first.

Sounds like a place to visit Terry!
I find Granite very intriguing; moody and mysterious.
You Canadians are a hardy lot!

"Granite" and "Milky Way" are a cut above anything we normally see here.  Masterful!

Many thanks, all for your kind words. The best part, from my perspective, is that these are all the works of nature itself; I observe, anticipate, compose, record and communicate. In a way, it’s like photographing art!
