Title: High cost of Photo Contest Worth it?
Post by: kevs on February 17, 2018, 10:43:40 pm
Has anyone else notice the incredible per image cost of PDN contests lately ( $60/ $70 per image)? It was always more than CA, but wow...
Do you think this is still worth it?

Personally I don't think any general contest that does not have a target audience are really worth it anymore.  There are just too many, and PDN is one of them.

The Communications Arts contest is geared towards creatives and ad firms, so that certainly carries weight if you are an ad photographer.  Likewise, the IACP photo contest is great for food photographers since that organization is filled with people in the food industry.

Who is PDNs target?  Photographers primarily, who are not going to hire you.

It's like when architects try to get their work published in The Architectural Record.  Sure, it is great and a stroke to their ego, but only architects read The Record; it's not going to get anyone published in it any business.
