I'm a Nikon user!  I had a 17-35 and it's one of Nikons very best.

It is one of the nicest lenses Nikon makes.  It makes me cry on the inside to use the canon wides after owning the nikon 17-35mm.

I have it, too! Great lens, not for those who wish to go unnoticed (although the lens hood is smaller than that of the 28-70  It makes 1.5x crop almost bearable...

I have it and use it. Excellent lens. In fact, I usually take this one and the 28-70 AFS. Hardly use anything else.

ah geez, removing the post was a lame mistake!     i didn't think so many of you guys had one.  i just wanted to see how this lens deals with flare spots.  one small sample shot with the 17-35, like the last set that micheal has here [a href=\"http://luminous-landscape.com/reviews/lenses/canon-17-40.shtml]http://luminous-landscape.com/reviews/lens...non-17-40.shtml[/url] is all i need.  i checked several google results and came up with 0 samples.

All my samples are years old and hard to find, from a Kodak DCS 760 (now that was a good $25,000.00 for 6MP).   I shot alot of interiors with the lens.  All backlit with window light.  I felt it did better than any lens I've used with those bright lightsources in the picture.  It had very little ghosting and very little flare.  Of course the fond memories of this lens grow over time, so I am not to be trusted entirely.  At least the lens will hold its used value because of it's quality and deserved reputation.  Also,  it covers 35mm, so if Nikon comes out with a full frame sensor the used market for your lens won't drop out from under your feet.

I have it - the best Nikon lens I own apart from maybe the 105 macro. Used both on a 760 and 14nx with no complaints - I haven't really tried them much on the 1ds 2 although I have the adaptor .The 17 - 35 is always fabulous on the 14nx

Flare was never the problem the way it is with the 16-35 Canon I have as well , and a friends 17-40 f4 is better ( but I do use that extra mm width and its very good stopped down a bit) ,  the test you mention is on the money totally from my experience.

I have the 17-35 also.  It's a terrific lens.  I'm using it with a D2x.
However, I'm planning to get a canon 1dsmkII (or III if available soon),
and I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a good adapter for mounting
it on the Canon.  I know there are plenty of adapters out
there, but I can't tell which are the good ones.  Any direct experience
either positive or negative would be great...
Thanks,
Tony

I have the Novoflex adaptor from b&H, it seems to work well and works extremely well with longer lenses, Fully manual only but the 1ds2 meter still works ok.

I haven't really given it a good  run with the 17 -35 although first tests I did seemed ok, but I believe its more critical at shorter focal lengths- I'll give it a test it the next day or so and let you know

Thanks very much for the recommendation.  I had two concerns, which you
addressed.   One was whether the adapter was going to be strong
enough to handle heavy loads (as with long lenses) without eventually
fatiguing.  Sounds like the Novoflex is fine in that regard.  The second
concern had to do with whether it is machined precisely enough
so you don't lose infinity focus, which would be more pronounced on
short focal length lenses.  If you  don't have time to check this, I may
be able to do a rough check at B&H  before I buy it.

After a short test it seems you do lose infinity focussing with the wider angle lenses - possibly the longer ones too although to a lesser extent. I expect the adaptor would have to be wafer thin or nonexistent not to affect the lens to film plane distance and that is probably why.

Also there seems to be a little bit of CA in the top left  very furthest corner on my 17-35 at 17mm,( but not the other corners) that isn't apparent when its used with the 14nx ( where is the Full frame Nikon!). It might just be the extra resolution , or the adaptor, or my particular sample but other than this it's a very nice crisp lens ( it was always on the 14nx)  and possibly a bit better than my 16 -35 Canon in some areas but I would have to be more pedantic in my testing to establish this.

I hadn't noticed the infinity error as I was manually focussing anyway - but it does explain some of the varied results I had with a 20mm Nikkor as I had noticed it wasn't focussing on infinity and thought it might be a particular lens issue - very sharp when not focussed on infinity( more like 2 meters on the lens barrel) but at an infinity distance .
The last time I tried it I wasn't to experienced with the 1ds2 - or any Canon gear for that matter.

I dhould add it is quite fiddly to get the adaptor onand off the lens but once you  get used to it its fine - I still have all my original fingernails.

it's funny that no responded to the original post, then when it was changed to "nevermind" a bunch of guys responded with "i have it!".  then all disappeared when assistance was asked for again.  why would anyone even bother saying they have it if they aren't willing to help?

I think the best adapter is the FotoDiox Pro at $85 USD.

It's the same as the $175 USD from Stephen Gandy.

The FotoDiox Pro can be ordered direct from FotoDiox

That's the one I use with my 1DsII

Thanks for the recommendation.  Is it possible to get infinity focus with
this adapter?
