I also posted this to dpreview.
A little basis info:
iPf-6400 printer, Right printhead replaced about 18 months ago
Am now replacing Left printhead, but getting this error:
"Cannot recognize printhead L. Open top cover and re-insert printhead L."
I have followed instructions several times, but keep getting this error to no avail.
Any thoughts?
Thank you.

It doesn't sound good. Have you called your supplier? You might need a new replacement print head.

This may be an issue with the print head that you just replaced. If you have the receipt from the supplier, contact Canon and they should send you a replacement. Most suppliers won't take back a bad head since the policies restrict hardware returns once opened, but you can check with them as well.
