Dawn didn't really happen this morning but I was rewarded, for my early start, by soft light and a calm Lake. This is the first crop from a 17 wide (32,000 px) panorama. I may get a few large prints from this. I should also get an idea of the best compositions so that I can return if/ when we have snow and hopefully a bit of colour. All comments welcome. Ken

Ken - great that first image - especially the flat light and tonality. You might look at it with a "little bit" of local clarity adj. ("soft brush" - something like +15-17 in LR) on the base area of the island on left to middle of trees...and also to look at with same adj. dragging across the trees along shore from right edge of frame to where they end toward middle. /B

It looks like a nice soft morning to have spent some time with your camera...
However, I find the lake bottom, murky rocks, etc. in the foreground a bit distracting from the overall composition.

Both are really good, Ken, but it's the second that grabs my attention.
I'd be interested to see monochrome versions, but I have a feeling that something significant will be missing when the subtle colours are removed.

Thanks everyone for the replies and the ideas for improvement. I think that I will have to live with the images for a while. My poor computer is starting to struggle rendering the 200+Mb images so I make a subtle adjustment and wait a long time as my home made computer tries to cope. I can see a new motherboard and processor on the horizon if I continue to take monster panoramas.
Another go at the second one with more subtle shadow lifting and thus less halos. Jeremy I tried a monochrome version but it just looked dull and brown.

I think they are both nice. I like the softer feel and might thinking printing them on a matte paper to support the more painterly look.

As a big fan of B&W, I feel the subtle colors are just perfect in both.

Love the second image,... was looking for a bit more colour on the right side "mountains". The second image "drew me in".

I'm not convinced that it's an improvement, I have to say. I liked the original version.

Re. the second image, I like your last go (above) best.
Re. the first image, I find the hills on the right to be somewhat distracting. I'd like to see them cropped out so that the island in the foreground occupies the left 2/3 of the image.
