Title: Bowfell in Winter, UK Lake District
Post by: AndyS on December 21, 2017, 02:51:16 am
Hi,

Went for a walk up Bowfell last week in The Lake District - with the promise of some good snow conditions on top. As it turned out conditions on top were pretty epic (read as atrocious if you don't like a bit of hardship!).

Loose unconsolidated snow made walking up the last few hundred metres pretty challenging, often plunging in to the top of my legs. Combined with wind and spin-drift it meant ski googles were almost a necessity. Visibility at the top was pretty poor, although it did start to clear a bit as I came back down, offering some nice views across to surrounding fells. Pleased with some of the photos I got though - all these taken on the Fuji X-Pro2 and processed in Capture One 11.

Nice Set, but the 2nd is really well done.

Yes. The second one immediately caught my eye and then held my attention. That said, the set certainly says 'winter'. Well done. Happy holidays.

Agreed, I like the second image most of all - it sums up the sculptural qualities that you find on top of so many fells.

I agree with all the comments above about the excellent quality of these images, but the second is also the stand out winner for me  :)

Thanks for the comments.

Number #2 is also my favourite of the set. In part because it best recalls my memories from the day of being up there alone in the cloud with the snow and wind blowing in my face whilst surrounded by a surreal rime-ice landscape.

I was a bit lucky in the sun started to glow softly through a thinner section of the cloud for about 30 seconds - just adding a touch of extra depth and relief to the rocks.

Thanks,
Andrew.
