I like the perspective here. It is very different!

Snow in Georgia! This snow came early. It hasn’t snowed in early December in quite a long time.

Thanks Stevie! And it's nice to see real woods again (I'm originally from NJ). That recent snow in the South must have been fun.

Six months late for Australia, however you can get some faux winter shots in New Zealand around this time. However Christmas day in most of Australia will be 30°C/86°F or more.
Season's Greetings,

That's OK Tom, look where I am now... Mountains won't even have any snow.

And Niagara Falls. I grew up here and in my opinion, it is most spectacular in winter. I think it is the only huge volume/width waterfall in the world that is located where there is a strong winter climate. Ice that breaks up from Lake Erie, above the falls, flows over the falls then jams up and totally covers the river in the gorge below the falls. And perpetual mist then freezes on everything to bury it all in ice. Really spectacular in winter.

Winter is pretty boring right now, here. Just dull, gray, cold, but no snow. Eventually sometimes there are some brighter hours. Although I basically hate cold and snow I appreciate it photographically. I wonder when some fine snow-days would come.

More and more as I get older, I move toward sparseness and simplicity. Yes the tree is actually leaning. It's very small area, but has sparse vegetation within that small area.

This is from our first storm of the year almost six weeks ago. Then Godzilla (name for the high pressure system sitting over the west coast)came and we have had almost no precipitation since.

Winter fun on a weird winter so far. Went for a skate at the lake today and this puppy was having a great time chasing his puck.

Thanks for the comments. Whilst looking for images I came across a complete folder of several hundred images taken on a day of swirling mist. I now have a few hours of looking through them and figuring out the best way of processing them. The last one was a crop and is too small to print this one however is 16Mp and should print well on a textured matte paper. I have used a colder colour balance on this one and have emphasised the mist more but I may have overdone it. Comments? Ken

Fantastic. I can feel the cold all the way over here in Western Canada.

From Iceland in March of this year. They’re having a heck of a winter this year! Worst one in years.
-
Abstract ice patterns. Local Tarn in pre-dawn light. Looking at it now I should have tried a polariser to see if I could bring more out of the leaf like patterns. Probably caused by temp just either side of freezing for a week with fairly light winds. Ken

In some ways the image is amusing. Like the sheep saying, hey Bill, we can do a fence, photograph us!

An old one from 7 years ago. Thought it was going to be like that again this year but the snow has gone and now we have dull grey typical British winter weather.

This pic conveys my winter experience pretty well. :) It's from mid March 2014, part of a time-lapse test (prior to a trip out to Grand Canyon National Park), new snow after a significant melt-off at the tail end of the second snowiest winter ever recorded in my locale.

Jack Frost. I guess this isn't a landscape, but it does say "winter" to me. We have replaced the old windows since this shot was taken, so no more patterns, sadly (the price one pays for lower heating bills). The first shot is an area of our bedroom window approximately 1.5 to 2 inches across. The other pictures are detail crops taken from the top image. Handheld, with my old Panasonic G1, and the Olympus 35mm f/3.5 macro lens (adapted from 4/3). Should have used a tripod and explored more, but I was in a hurry to be somewhere.
-
Wow! Your windows are much more artistic than mine. I never get frost that good.
Eric

Your windows might be too clean. :) Before we replaced ours, cleaning this particular window required a ladder and removal of the screwed-on storm window and screen. If that happened twice in a decade it was a minor miracle.
-
My wife's elderly aunt used to wash our windows, but she died about 25 years ago.
On window on the north side sometimes gets moderately interesting patterns at just the right temperatures, but never as elaborate as yours.
-
In German we call that "Ice Flowers" literally, and yours really deserve that name, indeed!

Incredibly nice ones.
They look like tree ferns.

Love the snowy textures, Eric. The morning light in my locale was very nice, and I considered popping outside for a pic or two. Then I saw the temp was below 0°F and decided on a second cuppa tea instead. :)

Not quite so cold in Nova Scotia as other parts of North America (only -14C today). On the north shore of the province (Bay of Fundy area), there was a little snow, too.

Great photos. I especially like the second with its snowy, cold, desolate feel. I’m glad you said they from NS as they look like Grey County here in southern ON.

Thanks, John. Here's another one from the same shoot.
The recent Charles Cramer article (Part III) got me back in a cloning frame of mind. He demonstrated a technique that I've used in the past, that of cloning out distracting white patches in forest landscapes. I spent quite a bit of time doing exactly that on this image.
