Title: New alternatives to LR/PS
Post by: Wilkinson on November 30, 2017, 09:55:30 am
Just throwing this out there, it would be very interesting for LULA to start reviewing the various new image processors on the market. It seems every day a new one is introduced and is more up to date then either LR or PS. I personally have been using PS/LR for close to 20 years, and they keep getting slower and sluggish each new iteration. All the new photo editors seem to be very up to date as far as todays OS. I am a MAC user and current OS is always up to date. I am also a Adobe (classic) cc subscriber however I doubt I will do this another year.

Well personally I think that in the professional space there is only one image editing programme and that is Photoshop. I don't think that will change any time soon. It is clunky but the cost of the programme is minimal compared to the learning curve to change if you value your time at all.

As far as catalogue programmes, they all have limitations. Lightroom is fine provided that you only have one machine and can afford to have that machine unusable while you do backups. I don't think it does anything well but it does most things to some degree. I have a LR/PS bundle so I already own it but don't use it.

We desperately need a replacement or upgrade to Aperture as a solid database that can run on a server and supports all raw files. Access from any machine, automatic backup overnight, supports all cameras, videos, smart albums etc.

What do you mean by "more up to date". I find all other products not as fully featured as the LR / PS bundle, meaning the other options are less up to date.
